Clover the Cat - Salvation in Superstition
Clover the Cat, a hand stitched messenger who carries the promise of good things to come this new year. Clover is made from fabrics that I buried under an oak tree. I love the patina the earth paints on the fabric softening it ready for change.
She is hand embroidered with folkloric symbols of good luck. Two magpies for joy, three white butterflies, a hummingbird, a black cat, a ladybird and she carries her offerings in an embroidered robin bag. All signifying good fortune, love and joyful visitors old and new.

The embroidery on her arm “broken hearts are open hearts” is inspired by Rumi’s words where he says that you have to break your heart to know it and to open it. How enriched we are by all that we have gone through.

Clover was exhibited with Poetic Tiger Gallery as part of their Peculiar Dolls exhibition this January, she has now sold and flown the nest to a new home. I was so excited that she was also the cover girl for the gallery's flyer for the exhibition!
A lovely start to the year, a year in which I am determined to move forwards out of repetitive cycles, create more one off characters and workshops. The workshops these last few months have been such a joy. Every single workshop kitten I have spent time with in the cabin I have loved so much. It is such a joy to have that quiet time with new friends, those times when you are more relaxed because you are doing something meditative with your hands and can open the pages of your book and share some chapters with a likeminded soul.

I hope you can take heart that there are many likeminded souls in the world, kind people, generous humans. I know it can feel so hard at the moment in an ever perplexing world but do allow yourself time to grow too. If you tend your own magic you will be so much stronger to tend others' too.
