This is the Kokedama inspired by my book 'The Cat and the Kokedama'!
She is made of buried fabric, organic cotton that was buried underground beneath a magical tree for a month before being gently dug up, washed and made into an earthly creature.
Hand painted and hand embroidered, also using Japanese fabrics for backing and for the bowl. She has a weight inside her belly so sits comfortably without being blown over!
She is 35 cm in height. She is delicate with regard to her leaves and stems so would be packaged very carefully to reach you with no tears!
I fell in love with Kokedama's when I first saw them, such an elegant way of creating a bed for a plant. Kokedama is literally translated as “moss ball” from Japanese. Koke means moss while dama means ball. A typical kokedama moss ball plant is a living plant sculpture with its roots suspended in a ball of soil wrapped with moss.
I love their character, their shape, and the way that they so perfectly hold a plant together with no need for pots and accoutrements!
One day I was watching my cat sitting next to one of my kokedama's, it was such a lovely sight. The adventurous contrary cat about to go on an adventure and the contrast of the steadfast solid kokedama happy in one spot growing up and out and sweetening the air and offering wise words to the cat. That is what inspired the story in my book. (which you can also buy here!)
